War stories

28 Oct

For the past two weeks Ali has told me the same story several times  every day:

“Hannah, choo choo

Ali, choo choo

Mama

Hannah choo choo

Ali done.”

This started when we went to the pumpkin patch with Hannah and Michelle. The girls wanted to ride the little toy train on the oval track (a.k.a. choo choo). I decided to ride along because I figured Ali might get a little nervous.

031

The engineer pushed the start button and everything was going great.

035

We got about half way around the track the first time and Ali decided she was done with this train.

037-1

The train however was not done with her, even as she tried to crawl over the side since Hannah was blocking the door.

039

We cheered her on as the train went round and round and round. She was brave and did not cry, just kept saying “all done”.  This is the girls at the end of the ride – Hannah asking for “more” and Ali most definitely “done”.

042

I just think it is funny how the stress and excitement  of the situation deeply implanted it in her little head. I guess we all like to tell of our death defying adventures. This is her first war-story and she is not done telling it yet.

Possibly

19 Oct

Possibly the best day of her life.

elmo1

We went to Sea World on Saturday with the entire Hawkins family, and Ali got to meet Elmo in the fur. I had just found out the day before that Sesame Street characters were the theme of the kid’s area there, so I took a risk and started telling Ali that we were going to see Elmo. See World did not let us down.

They played peek-a-boo and other toddler games, and Ali even got brave and gave Elmo a kiss right on the nose!

Finally it was time for even these good friends to say goodbye.

elmo4

I was going to end here because Elmo is enough, but there is more to show. Sea World has such an awesome kids play area. Ali had a blast and probably could have stayed here all day.

076-2

Oh yeah, and I met this guy. Don’t tell Matt, but I think I am in love.

Good times

03 Oct

We were celebrating Matt’s birthday with his family last weekend. His mom made a feast for us (thanks Donna!) and we enjoyed leftover cheesecake all week.

Mmmmm, cheesecake.

Nala showed up ready to party!

Look, she is smiling about wearing her hat!

And Nala was not the only one smiling. Look how happy Ali is to be with Aunt Amber and Papa!

It was a nice and relaxing day. Ali and I went swimming where she practiced dunking me under water – I guess that is only fair considering we do the same thing to her, and Nala actually got Tucker (Matt’s parents somewhat older and less playful cocker spaniel) to romp with her. We are definitely enjoying the freedom that comes with no longer running a retail store and instead having……

wait for it……..

Weekends!

Happy man

02 Oct

Matt got a great birthday present this year.  My parents hooked him up with an ATV to ride for this weekend while we are celebrating all of our family’s fall birthdays in Ridgecrest.

He is a happy man.

A happy, tired man after a whole lot of riding.

He was nice enough to share his present with me too!
