Seven

28 Jun

Last weekend Matt and I celebrated our 7th anniversary. We made our semi-tradtional trip to Cambria. I wish that semi-traditional was the same as semi-annual and we went twice a year, but in fact it means that it is sort of a tradition and more often than not we go to Cambria for our anniversary.

anniversary

We only had a short time there, so we just hit the highlights.

Our favorite place to stay, the J Patrick House was just as relaxing as it always is. Our favorite place to eat, Robin’s was sumptuous as usual. We browsed our favorite art gallery, Artifacts, and then hit the beach and the beautiful tide pools.

Man, it was pretty and rejuvenating out there!

So there you go, if you have less than 18 hours to spend in Cambria, that is how you hit the highlights and still feel like you got a little chance to relax. It was perfect, not a second wasted figuring out where to eat or finding our way back from a wrong turn. When you have a less than 24 hour vacation, you don’t have time for that kind of adventure.

Cool tips

23 Jun

I followed these instructions on Pioneer Woman Photography the other day, on how to turn photos of flowers into art.  It worked and I had fun! Thanks PW and MCP Actions for the great lesson!

To the dads

21 Jun

Happy Daddy’s Day, as we say around here, to all the wonderful dads.

I am amazed to realize that we have nothing but the best dads in our lives. Not a single “deadbeat” as far as the eye can see.

There is of course the number one Dada in our house. da

Not only does he do the typical Dada stuff like entertaining her with Elmo, he does so much more. For example, he is the one that gets Ali up, dressed, fed and ready to go most days because I go to work before she gets up. They have a very special relationship because they have that time together. Some days, when we don’t have any grandmas around to help out, Ali gets to go to work with Matt. They always have a great time together.

There is also Matt’s dad, Ali’s Papa.

da2

Ali really looks up to him.

da3

Ali is lucky to get to see her Papa every week. He is such a caring guy and would do anything for her. She loves to cuddle up to him!

Finally we have my dad, Ali’s Grampa.

da4

They love to play together!

da5

When she sees him walk through the door she squeals and just about jumps out of her skin she is so excited to see him!

Ali is for the most part a girly girl. She already loves clothes, accessories and flowers, but she also loves airplanes and always points them out when she sees or hears them, then she says, “Dada”. This is a silly example of the huge influence that our dads have.

So thanks Dad for being a positive influence in my life and thanks to John and Matt too. You all deserve to be celebrated today!

Love, Amy

Last weekend

20 Jun

Last week the Hawkins family all got together to remember our Great Aunt Lois who went home to Jesus a couple of weeks ago. Since she was our aunt by marriage, most of the family and friends there were new to us, but they all shared the same memories that we did of a woman with a lovely spirit who was gentle and kind, loved people and animals, and was a joy to be around. We spent the day remembering her long and beautiful life.

The next day we took an excursion out to the field where Matt now flies a couple of times a week with a whole bunch of guys. Here is the plane he was flying that day. He makes his planes completely from scratch. Remember that foam cutter I posted a while ago? Well, you need a foam cutter when you are building airplanes out of foam!

Ali and her Mimi had fun hanging out at the field.

And here is another flashback for you. Remember last March when we went to Disneyland and Uncle Justin stole Ali’s purse?

This time he stole her hat!

It looks so good on him, we may not ask him to give it back :-)

Another Party Post

14 Jun

We have been blessed with many wonderful friends both here in Ventura County and all over the place. It is always extra special when a group comes together with mutual friendship going many directions, and we have been lucky enough to have a group like that for several years now. For the four couples in our little group, all of our birthdays clump together twice during the year, so we have been in the habit of having semi-annual birthday parties. We had our spring birthday party last weekend.

Backyard, barbecue, bubbles……….I would like to think of more “B” words to describe our afternoon, but I can’t. Other highlights included s’mores and Matt’s Elmo impression!

Although I don’t want to write it and make it real, this did mark the end of an era. Paul and Renata are in the process of completing their move to Orange County and we are going to miss them so much.

As everyone (in North America and maybe the Western Hemisphere) already knows, these are the nicest people you will ever meet and Orange County will be lucky to have them.

We marked the occasion by posing for some pictures. When we eat or play games we tend to split up the guys and girls and this day was no different.

And even Dinkey made an appearance at his peril:

1st party post

07 Jun

Last weekend Ruthie, Ali and I drove up to Ridgecrest to attend a bridal shower that our mom threw for our cousin and Ali’s cuncle (cousin + uncle = cuncle) Mike’s fiancee Cheryl. I think it is so cool that a whole group of people who had never even met Cheryl before came to help us welcome her to our family. What a great community!

Cheryl’s son Luke and Cuncle Mike came over after the party, and were goofing off enjoying the gifts. They are such a fun family!

I am pretty excited to be able to claim this guy as a relative!

093

I am so happy that the Fowler family is growing so much this summer. Not only do we get to claim Cheryl and Luke, but Ali’s Cuncle Chris (do I have to explain it again?) is getting married too! Congratulations and welcome to Marie!

It is a party season, so at least one more party post to come!

Hangin’ out

03 Jun

Brook came to visit last week. I think that life would be bland without her.

002-1

After we did some serious shopping, she and Ali posed for several photo ops.

013-1

All that shopping and playing can make a person hungry, so she also helped Ali with her yogurt.

032

Hey Ali, do you like hanging out with Brook?

033-1

I guess so.
