A little more Cayucos

29 May

After a reasonably good nights sleep, Ali and Hannah were hanging out after their sleepover on Monday morning. They were a pair of PJ girls, but Ali wanted to wear her sweatshirt over her PJs. It was pink, and who can resist pink?

Our new favorite pier photographer made it into some of the shots too!

Look at Ali’s face – the beach is amazing!

Cayucos

26 May

cayucos1

We had a great but way too short Memorial Day trip to Cayucos with friends. We have driven past this little town many times, because Matt and I usually take an anniversary trip to Cambria. I remember the beach at Cayucos from my childhood, but I didn’t realize what a great little town it was. Of course, I think the good company and the beautiful little house that Chris and Michelle let us stay at made it even better!

Today I am posting a few of my favorite pictures from the weekend. If I get a chance later this week, I will post a few more.

This was Ali’s first time on a pier and she loved it. Yes, it is true that we live in a beach town within a few miles from a very nice pier, but unfortunately we do not go to the beach very much. I think of it often, and I want to go. Then I think that if I am going to the beach I should bring Nala because she would love it.

Hmmm, managing Ali and Nala at the beach would be tricky. Nala gets so excited and I will have to watch both of them to keep them away from tar in the sand, dead seals on the beach, other dogs, kids, surfcasters and the big, scary ocean.

I would like to take pictures at the beach too. Camera, dog, baby………forget it. I either need to be willing to give up doing everything at the beach and just take Ali, or I need some help!

That is my beach tangent. Here is the last picture.

I was excited when I downloaded my pictures and found this one. I love it – so creative! Thanks R!

Matt builds stuff

19 May

Lots of stuff

021-1

All kinds of stuff

020

Like this

024

It is a foam cutter

029-1

I am awestruck. I don’t know exactly how he uses it, but in the time it takes me to fold a load of laundry, he has created a new tool.  This happens all the time.

You may have noticed the very, very pointy screws sticking out of the wood and freaking me out every time I see it. Please, Matt, shave those things off or cap them or something. Pictures of Nala or Ali with a screw embedded in their scalp just would not look good on this blog.

Just Like Us

18 May

This photo reminds me of the “Just Like Us” section in Us Weekly.

029

Just imagine it with the following caption. Actually, first you have to imagine that I am a celebrity – perhaps I invented Post-Its? Now, imagine the following caption.

They Go To The Zoo

Amy Hawkins hefts her 16 month old daughter on her shoulders while checking out the animals at the Los Angeles Zoo on May 10.

Now don’t you feel better, knowing that an important celebrity like me goes to the zoo, just like a mere mortal?

And the winner is?

11 May

Here are my nominations for best shot of the day at the LA zoo.

#1 Taken by Matt (but I did crop it, does that count for something?)

flamingos

#2 Also Matt’s, and strikingly beautiful when you really look at it.

#3 Me, me, me! My tigers!

Clearly Matt has the “mad skillz” when it comes to anything artistic in this house, but as long as he let’s me keep posting the pictures he takes I don’t mind!

A Girl and Her Dog

02 May

Ali and Nala recently discovered that we have an upstairs patio. Since this discovery a few days ago, they are both regularly scratching or knocking on the doors to get out.

I can see why they like it out there. The weather has been beautiful recently and it is pretty peaceful. Matt and I  haven’t spent much time out there in the past because the primary decorative element is the satellite receiver, and there is not much room to do much out there.

Neither of these are issues for the 1 year old human and canine in the house. They find plenty to do.may1

Now I love to hang out there too. They can be very convincing.
