Oh Dinkey.
Dinkey, Dinkey, Dinkey.
You have done so much in your short life.
You are an outdoorsman – camping, fishing, and occasionally getting roasted like a marshmallow.
You have been kidnapped, held for ransom, and controlled by forces greater than yourself.
But now
You say you want to fly

Well, ok.
Let’s give it a try.

He’s airborne

This might just be Dinkey’s newest undiscovered talent!
What’s that Dinkey?
Uh oh.

May Day, May Day, aiiiii

Dinkey’s flight didn’t end well,
but as you may have guessed -
He’s still smiling

Thanks Dinkey, for all the good times.

Ali finally has just enough hair to put it into a sprouty pony tail on top of her head.

Ali, your Gramma and Grampa told me that I had no hair until I was two years old, and I believed it until I found the first birthday pictures proving otherwise. So now, someday far in the future when we accuse you of being a bald baby, you can pull out this picture as your defense!

On Sunday the whole Hawkins’ family got together for a great day at Disneyland. We were celebrating our two March birthdays.

Happy Birthday John and Justin!
Matt and I realized that we hadn’t been to Disneyland in 10 years. We went to California Adventure a few years ago and have been to downtown Disney a couple of times in recent years, but that is it. It brought some of the excitement back for us – not having been there in so long. Of course, the other thing that made it exciting was that it was Ali’s first time there.

She said, “Da”, but I am pretty sure she meant, “Look! Here I am! I am at Disneyland and I am having fun!”
She seemed to sense our excitement, because while still in the parking garage, making our way to the tram, she was bouncing up and down, kicking her legs in her stroller and laughing.
We rode the train, and mostly she enjoyed it, but then we got a glimpse of Disneyland from a child’s eyes, and that child was saying, “This is the wierdest place on earth.” First we chugged along through Frontierland and New Orleans Square – nothing too wierd there. Then we entered Splash Mountain. It got really dark for a while (not a problem for Ali), then all of the sudden we get a view of all the animals singing and dancing “Zippity Doo Dah” on a riverboat. Ali just turns and looks at us like, “What is this, are you kidding me?!?”

Ali’s favorite parts of Disneyland included:
Splashing in the fountain in Toon Town. I didn’t get a photo of this because of the whole splashing thing. She also really liked all of the characters that we saw.
She liked looking at the outside of Small World.

She was scrambling to get closer to the clocks, so she ended up on my shoulders, where the rival attraction of my hair clip took over for a while.

And hey, does she know that Uncle Justin took her purse?

It probably comes as no surprise to anyone that the inside of Small World was less of a hit. I’m not sure why it came as a surprise to me. Ali handled it well, she just calmly laid her head on Matt’s chest until the overstimulating music, lights and activity subsided. As soon as we were outside and she could see plants and flowers, she was happy and excited again.
The other big hits of the day were the living creatures. We spent some good time in the petting zoo, bonding with the goats.

In the end, she cuddled up to her daddy and fell asleep on Matt’s shoulder as we were on our way back to the car.

Thanks John, Donna, Justin and Amber for a great day!

Posting three days in a row.
Are daily posts going to be a new trend at thehawkinshouse.net?
Don’t count on it.
Today Amber and Justin came to visit for the day. It was nice to just hang out with them with no agenda. We were all happy to see them.

Ali was such a ham today. She had fun making us all laugh.

We managed to wear Nala out doing a little geocaching, so she also appreciated Amber and Justin providing a warm place for a nap.

The process of maneuvering herself into this position was pretty time consuming. First one front foot then the next one snuck onto the couch. Then she wiggled her body slowly forward. The next move is the trickiest and requires the most stealth. One back leg – on the couch, off the couch, on the couch again. When she was sure she would get away with it, the last leg came up and in a not-so-graceful move she flung her rump up and over.
It looks like all the effort was worth it though.

I wrote last night’s post after Photoshop lesson number three. I didn’t include this one because I thought it would look wierd to include an “olde tyme” style picture with all of the others. I already felt uncomfortable enough mixing black and white, faded, and vibrant effects all together in one post.
I couldn’t stop thinking about this picture today, and so here it is.
The itch is scratched.
Now, if there is still time, I am going to go take a nap.
Please Ali, sleep for 20 more minutes!

I love Fridays.
Most weeks we get an early start so that I can get my weekly coffee date with my girlfriends. It is amazing to me that we have been getting up early (almost) every Friday for more than two years now. I can’t remember exactly when we started, but I know there were no babies in the picture yet!

Thank you Renata for always making the Thursday evening phone calls or e-mails to ensure that we are tucked into our little corner of Starbucks on Friday morning.

I am lucky to have such photogenic friends! I am tempted to fill this blog up with pictures of Michelle and Hannah, but they have their own blog for that.
Ok, just one more of Hannah because I can’t help myself.

Holly joins us when she can, and we would be happy to have more girlfriends to share our round of cafe mistos, but it takes a brave soul to get out of bed early on Friday mornings. It is early, but it is worth it!
This morning Matt was out flying, so Ali and I stopped by on the way home to say hi and enjoy the sunshine.

We also supervised a test flight of my dad’s plane. Matt was out there getting it, “dialed in”. So dad, here is a little preview.

Then it was off to work for everybody, but I just really love Fridays.
