Ali had her first bath on Tuesday night. (I mean a week ago Tuesday. I wrote most of this last week, but got distracted and just got back to it today.) She definitely enjoyed the warm water. I have to admit that I am very impressionable and believed the Johnson and Johnson ad. You know the one about their bedtime bath routine where you see the baby in the bath, then the mom rubbing lotion on the happy, clean baby afterwards? It says it relaxes them and helps them sleep. Well as much as Ali loved the bath, she hated everything that came afterwards. We got her out and wrapped her in the cute hoodie towel. She was not really thrilled with this. Then we took her upstairs to do the massaging lotion portion of the routine and get her dressed for bed. Based on the screaming, I am guessing she did not find this part at all relaxing. For now bathtime does not include lotion, nor does it happen at bedtime!

Diaper Genie Adventures
We have been really well taken care of here, with first my mom spending a week and then Matt’s mom spending a week in town helping out. Somehow, in all of the new baby activities, the new Diaper Genie did not get emptied for a while. This was partly because there was no one around who had read the directions and partly because we just didn’t get to it. Yesterday, I went into Ali’s room and got out the Diaper Genie directions. For those of you that have had one, you know that it is not that complicated to change – I just had to learn how.
The Diaper Genie is a fairly small contraption – maybe two feet tall and no more than a foot in diameter at the widest point. I popped the lid, tied it off, and lifted out the full bag. And lifted. And lifted. And lifted. I held the top of the full bag of diapers out at the level of my head and it reached to the floor. I wish I had taken a picture.
First Time at Church!!!
A Fun Outing!
Ali is 10 days old today! Yesterday we had our first outing that did not involve any doctors. When she was two days old we took her to the pediatrician for her first checkup. Then when she was five days old we took her to the birth center for a visit and to the hospital’s lab for the newborn screening test.
Yesterday, we went with Mimi and Papa Hawkins to go see Daddy at work, then we all went out to lunch at Snapper Jacks. As you may have guessed, Ali slept through the whole thing. I certainly cannot say the same for the previous outings which involved some very unhappy and very awake moments.

What were you watching at 3:27am
Hello everyone,
Today was the first night Amy and I were on our own. The whole experience was interesting, time consuming, and tiring. But there were good things too, like what is on TV at 3:27am on the Speed Channel (Moto GP by the way) and how Ali was ready to play at 4:00am. Amy and I tallied our sleeping scores last night and still were able to pull together about 5 hours each, not bad in our opinions.
We are having Grandparents over to visit, so we have a busy day today.
Ali and Amy says Hi!

A Bun is About to be Taken Out of the Oven…
Hello faithful readers!
Amy and I just spent the first 12 hours of early labor taking walks, sleeping and eating. Early last night, the baby decided enough is enough, so now Amy is trying to relax, waiting for the fireworks to begin. The midwife says she has at least until tommorow before active labor begins, so we decided to rent one of the top movies of 2007, the now infamous, Shrek III. Boy (or in this case – girl), are we excited. So now I must go, but more to come soon! Please pray for us.
Happy New Year!
Hey everybody,
This is my first post – Thanks Matt for setting this up! We are less than one week from baby’s due date, and we are both very anxious for her to arrive! I am on maternity leave now, and although it feels very strange to not go to work I certainly have enough to do around here to keep busy.
We had a very nice, quiet New Year’s Eve celebration with the Kiners and the Pecks, followed by a fabulously relaxing New Year’s Day. May God bless you in the New Year.
Amy
